WVU Memories

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

Did I go there and become an alcoholic, or did I go there because I already was one?

I attended WVU from 1992-1997, with one semester off in 1995 due to my illness. I have many great and some scary memories from my time at the university.

I was the Blackout Queen from 1992-1995. I remember never making it into football games but loving Southern Comfort and tailgating with my crew from the O-Zone floor of Brook Tower.

I remember literally losing a car. You do that by permitting a boyfriend to borrow it and then not asking for it back. (Anxiety) Dave, "Dude, where's my car?" I never saw it again. Heard it was driven in the wrong direction up High Street.

I remember many jobs, a fistfight (or 2), boys, Cheat Lake, Rex-in-Effect, finding my frying pan broken and stuck behind the stove in a rental on Grant Street (a house later condemned, I believe), riding country roads in the middle of the night with a soon-to-be jar head (Brian), the WVU Ski Club... so much more. Yes, burning couches... I get so tired of comments from people here in Richmond about them.

I remember handcuffs, shackles, and Chestnut Ridge Hospital. An intern at the hospital recognized my name, realized he knew my brother from Charleston, WV. The guy he went to school with who had his own apartment at 14 years old.

I had to work to stay in school, pay my bills, eat, cloth myself. I gained the freshman 15, maybe a little more, and my mom thought not helping me buy new jeans would motivate me to just lose the weight. I received student loans but they weren't enough to cover all of my expenses. Places Worked: Freddie's Bar & Grill, Lady Godiva's, University Affiliated Center for Developmental Disabilities (UACDD), Boston Beanery, 7-11, Pizza Hut, Psych 101 Tutor, House Cleaner for a rental company (Rick Panico's Brother and owner of Freddie's, Joe Panico?), Holiday Inn... I think that's all! Lol

One can expect to see many posts in this Blog about WVU in the future.

I thank God I straightened up and was able to complete my BSBA, majoring in Human Resources. I went on to get my MBA from Strayer University later.
